Puttingal blast: summons to former MP

Chairman of the Guruvayur Devaswom Board and former Kollam MP N. Peethambara Kurup has been served with notice to appear before the Union government-appointed inquiry commission probing the April 10 Puttingal fireworks tragedy that had claimed more than 100 lives. Mr. Kurup has been asked to appear before the commission at 12 noon on Saturday. The commission is holding its sitting at the Government Guest House here.

The summons have been served on the basis of testimonies by the temple committee office-bearers that politicians had intervened in favour of holding a competitive pyrotechnics at the Puttingal Devi temple after the district administration had denied permission for the same.
