Protect Keltron, State govt. urged

March 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - KANNUR:

The Keltron Employees’ Association (KEA) affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions has urged the State government to protect the public sector Keltron saying that its sales turnover and profit have reportedly fallen this fiscal due to the apathy shown by the government.

Association president M.V. Jayarajan in a statement here on Saturday said Keltron that had posted turnover of Rs.316 crore and a profit of Rs.8 crore in 2013-14 could achieve only a turnover of Rs.295 crore so far this fiscal against the targeted Rs.350 crore.

Alleging that this decline was due to the short shrift the company was given by the State government in implementing projects in the electronic and electrical sectors, he said the United Democratic Front (UDF) government was favouring private sector companies which adversely affected the business of Keltron.During the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) rule, Keltron was the nodal agency of many government projects, he said. The association’s demand was to regularise contract workers with long service, he said.

Though the trilateral agreement on pay revision was signed in 2012, no decision had been taken as the file got stuck in the Industries and Finance Departments, he said.
