The police have begun probe into the attacks by a 10-member gang on the campus of the Nettur Technical Training Foundation (NTTF) at Illikunnu near Thalassery on November 9.
The Dharmadam police registered a case and started probe into the attack on office of the institute and the manhandling of its Principal and warden.
Principal N.P. Anilkumar said that the attack had been carried out by a group of 10 people who barged in to the office and physically attacked him and the warden and damaged furniture in the office.
Warden Ranjith who had suffered injuries in the attack has been admitted to hospital at Thalassery.
The Principal said that the assailants had carried out the attacks and damaged the furniture at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday and fled the spot before before other staff members and students rushed to the office. They grabbed his shirt collar and manhandled him and shouted at him. When the warden had come to his rescue, the gang turned their ire at him. Ranjith was brutally beaten up and kicked by the attackers, the Principal said.
They also shouted at the Principal about an alleged instruction of the institute authorities to a student, who was preparing to go to Sabarimala, to have his beard shaved as per the stipulated discipline of the institute.
The Principal said that a few days ago, a teacher had reminded the student of the college rules on seeing him grow beard. The student had not asked special permission for growing beard, the Principal said adding that the college authorities had not taken any disciplinary action. The student had not been deterred from attending the classes,
he said adding that the student was attending the classes on Wednesday.
The NTTF, a successor to the Church of South India (CS) Technical Training Institute, had been established in 1959 as a joint venture of the CSI and a church-based development agency in Switzerland with the objective of promoting quality education. It operates several training centres across the country.
