December 28, 2010 08:17 pm | Updated 08:17 pm IST - PALAKKAD:

The Private Bus Operators Coordination Committee has called for a bus strike on Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Palakkad district to protest against the ‘harassment' by Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials on the issue of installing two doors in buses.

Coordination committee leaders T.N. Gopinath, E. Ravindranath and P. Gokuldas told the media here on Tuesday that the RTO officials were harassing the bus operators and their staff in the pretext of checking buses.

They said the officials were harassing them violating an agreement reached at a conference called by the District Collector.

Meanwhile, the coordination committee leaders of private bus operators of Walayar and Kozhijampara said they would not participate in the strike on Wednesday.

Private taxi operators and autorickshaw drivers have called for an indefinite strike from Wednesday for revising the tariff due to the frequent hike in the prices of petrol and diesel.
