Elaborate arrangements are under way for the national conference of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) beginning here on April 4.
Organising committee chairman and Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] Polit Bureau member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said at a press conference here on Friday that two lakh CITU workers and their families would attend a rally here on April 8 to mark the end of the five-day conference, in which 2,000 delegates from different parts of the country would take part. The rally would be held at Jawahar Municipal Stadium. The delegates’ session would be held at a specially arranged venue at Police Maidan here.
Seminars
As part of the conference, seminars on various issues were under way, Mr. Balakrishnan said. Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan would inaugurate a seminar here on March 30, while CPI(M) State unit secretary Pinarayi Vijayan would inaugurate another seminar on April 2.
Trade union leaders of various central trade unions would attend a trade union meet on April 5, Mr. Balakrishnan said. A media seminar and a cultural meet would be held on April 5 and 6, respectively. Actor Kalabhavan Mani would inaugurate a history exhibition here on March 28.
Representative of the World Forum of Trade Organisation would attend the conference, he said.
On the failure of the strike by government employees and teachers in the State, Mr. Balakrishnan said a strike’s failure did not mean elimination of the demands raised by striking employees. Moreover, only united struggles of employees and workers would yield any result, he said.
