Ambalappuzha Judicial First Class Magistrate, V.Udayakumar on Monday remanded Prasobh Sugathan, second officer of ship, Prabhu Daya, which allegedly rammed a fishing boat off Alappuzha coast on March 1 killing five fishermen, to police custody till 5 p.m. on March 24.

The court on Monday, took up the application moved by Ambalappuzha police on Friday, seeking custody of Mr. Prasobh. The officer, who is the first accused in the case registered by Ambalappuzha police on mid-sea collision of ship with the boat, was staying in the Alappuzha sub-jail where he was remanded till March 29. Another case has also been registered in connection with the complaint of Sugathan, father of Mr. Prasobh, alleging that his son was thrown out of the ship.

The police already have in custody Gordon Charles Pereira, captain of m.v.Prabhu Daya and the third accused till March 23 and Mayur Veerendra Kumar, seaman and second accused till March 20. All the three accused are likely to be question by the police from Monday, sources said.
