Power cut hits work at Walayar check-posts

Frequent power cuts has affected the functioning of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Excise Department check-posts at the Walayar inter-State check-post.

Though there are two small generators at the RTO check-post, it cannot support the system for more than a few hours. Officials at the check-post said the power went off at 3 p.m. on Friday and was restored only at 3 p.m. the next day.

At the RTO main office at the Palakkad Collectorate, power failure on Monday put candidates who had come to take the learners driving test to hardship. Out of 80 applicants, only 20 were given the licence certificate, the officials said.
