Postal strike put off

May 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - KOLLAM:

The indefinite strike planned by postal employees from May 6 has been put off. The strike was announced in protest against the moves to privatise the Postal Department and failure to cover the General Dak Service (GDS) employees under the Seventh Pay Commission.

The strike was declared by a joint action council led by the National Federation of Postal Employees and the Federation of National Postal Organisations.

Talks held

Action council conveners R.V. Sreekant and S. Biju said that the strike was put off following talks Union Minister for Communications Ravi Sankar Prasad had with the action council leaders in Delhi on Tuesday.

A statement in this connection from the action council said that the Minister had given certain assurances with regard to the demands put forth by the employees and that the issue of covering the GDS employees under the Pay Commission was being considered by the Finance Ministry.
