Positive move

It is noteworthy that the government plans to amend service rules, including those of public sector enterprises, to curb unhealthy practices among employees such as smoking in office and coming for work under the influence of alcohol.

An oath must be extracted from the employees — that they would not resort to such practices — and this must be filed in their service register.

Welcome decision

The setting up of a special squad to trace those who indulged in looting during the Thooneri riots is welcome.

The police too proved their mettle by recovering stolen ornaments from some of those who were arrested. Those absconding should be traced soon.
