Thrissur Pooram concluded on Thursday afternoon with the ceremony ‘Upacharam cholli piriyal.’

The ceremony, in which Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi deities were taken from the Thekkinkadu Maidan to their respective temples, marked the conclusion of the 36-hour pooram festivities. The events staged on Wednesday like ‘Kooti Ezhunnellippu’ and ‘Kudamattom’ were re-enacted on the concluding day. The Pakal Pooram on the concluding day is mostly attended by local residents and is called ‘Desakkarude Pooram.’ There were fireworks after the Pakal Pooram.

The main fireworks, displayed at 3.30 a.m. on Thursday, was conducted under strict monitoring of the district administration and PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation) officials. Confusion prevailed till the last minute as the official permission for the main fireworks was given late on Wednesday night.

Huge crowd thronged the Swaraj Round and nearby roads to watch the display of fireworks.
