The political party leaders including MLAs of different political formations in the State are making a beeline to the enchanting hills of Nelliampathy spread over 82 sq. kms in the Chittur taluk of the Palakkad district.

On Tuesday, five CPI(M) MLAs of Palakkad district – M. Chandran, M. Hamsa, K.V. Vijayadas, V. Chenthamarakshan and K.S. Saleekha – visited Shernelly and some other parts of Nelliampathy on a 'fact finding mission'.

On Monday, five MLAs of the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) led by V.D. Satheesan and T.N. Prathapan visited Nelliampathy along with V. Balram and Ibi Eden. They were also joined by M.V. Sreyams Kumar of Socialist Janata (Democratic) and K.M. Shaji of Indian Union Muslim League.

The second contingent of the UDF MLAs visit led to the resignation of M.M. Hassan, Congress spokesman and the Convenor of the official Sub Committee constituted by the ruling front to study the issue of lease expired and violated Estates in Nelliampathy. This Committee had visited Nelliampathy on August 1.

When the ruling UDF and Opposition LDF are making the `Nelliampathy study tour’ the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not lagging behind. State party president V. Muraleedharan will lead a team of party leaders to Nelliampathy on Wednesday.

Leader of Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan is scheduled to visit Nelliampathy next week reportedly accompanied by a contingent of leading environmentalists.
