The police will investigate the death of a 20-year-old, who committed suicide, in the wake of the suspicion raised by his mother that her lone son could have been a victim of the online game Blue Whale Challenger .

The Town police said the death would be investigated to verify whether it had any link with the online game.

Kulathinkal Ashiq, a graduate from Government Victoria College here, had performed well in exams since his school days. He was found dead hanging at his house at Pirayiri on the outskirts of Palakkad town on March 30. His mother Asmabi, who came to know about two similar cases in other parts of the State, approached the police saying that Ashiq may have taken the extreme step after getting influenced by the online game.

“He too had the tendency to walk alone during odd hours, jumping from the roof and slashing of veins using blade. He was addicted to online games and used to keep awake till odd hours. He used to visit burial grounds and seashores during night,’’ she told the media here.

She said the family had traced photographs of him on the Ponnani beach with blood oozing from cut veins in his mobile phone.
