Police chief reviews security at Sabarimala

December 23, 2013 02:18 am | Updated 02:18 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

State Police Chief K.S. Balasubramanian has said that the possibility of operating KSRTC buses to Pulmedu from Kumily for the Makaravilakku festival will be explored in view of the heavy influx of pilgrims expected there to worship the Makarajyoti on January 14.

He was in Sabarimala to review the security arrangements at the pilgrim centre on Sunday evening.

Mr. Balasubramanian said Pulmedu witnessed heavy rush on the previous Makaravilakku day. The police would ensure better security arrangements there this time.

Mr. Balasubramaniam said Sabarimala had been witnessing unprecedented rush of devotees from the beginning of the ongoing pilgrim season. The police anticipated an increased pilgrim inflow during the ensuing Makaravilakku season too.

More police

He said more police would be deployed at Sabarimala and Pampa if required.

Directions had been issued to block vehicular traffic only at places where the pilgrims could get food and water on Sabarimala roads, the police chief added.
