T.K.A. Nair, Adviser to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will arrive on a three-day visit to Attappady on Monday for an assessment of the situation that has resulted in the death of 53 tribal infants from malnutrition during the past 17 months.
Mr. Nair will reach Attappady from the Coimbatore airport in the evening.
On Tuesday, he will visit some of the tribal hamlets of Attappady where infant deaths took place. He will hold discussions with officials on Wednesday on the implementation of the Rs. 125-crore Central Package for Attappady announced by Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh during his visit to the tribal belt on June 6, along with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. The Centre has set up a task force to implement the package.
