Playwright Antony laid to rest with State honours

Noted playwright P.M. Antony, who passed away here on Thursday, was laid to rest at his residence here with State honours on Friday.

Additional District Magistrate K.P. Thampi laid a wreath on behalf of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy. Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal, in a condolence message, said modern theatre had suffered a huge loss with the demise of Mr. Antony. In another message, Kerala Sahitya Akademi secretary R. Gopalakrishnan said Mr. Antony had stood by the side of the downtrodden, coming with strong images and symbols to take drama to the common man. The Kerala Sahitya Akademi had honoured him in 1992 considering his contributions to theatre.

A large number of the public, apart from several known faces from the theatre and cultural sphere of the State arrived at Mr. Antony’s residence to pay homage.
