Playing the real farmer

July 18, 2013 12:51 am | Updated 12:52 am IST - KOTTAYAM:

Actor Mammootty is always at his best, both on-screen and off-screen. Remember the movie ‘Valsalyam’ in which he brilliantly played the role of an ordinary farmer shouldering the burdens of a middle class family in Kerala? He is a farmer in real life too.

On Wednesday, he came to his paddy field at Cheepunkal to oversee the transplantation of seedlings. The actor, who owns more than ten acres of paddy field at Cheepunkal, said farming was not a hobby for him. “I come from a traditional agricultural family. I take it with all its seriousness,” he said. He also urged the young generation to take up agriculture.

The actor said he was following the organic farming method so far. But now he has shifted to zero budget farming. The actor is a keen fan of the Palekar model farming. He also joined the workers in transplanting the saplings.
