The district administration will take steps to sensitise students and teachers on the prevention of A(H1N1) influenza, according to District Collector Mini Antony.
She was speaking at a joint meeting of the officials of the Health and Educational Departments at the collectorate here on Wednesday.
Ms. Antony stressed on the importance of involving students and teachers in HINI prevention programmes, particularly due to the long-lasting impact such ailments could have upon children, and the contagious nature of the flu virus.
At the meeting, it was decided to permit holidays for a week to those students suffering from common cold, throat pain, and fever. Students with similar symptoms should also be referred to the health centres for treatment.
Special assemblies
As part of awareness measures, special assemblies will be conducted at the schools in the district on July 19. As a prelude to the programme, a meeting of the Assistant Education Officers and the headmasters will be held on the previous day.
In addition, the meeting also decided to involve National Service Scheme volunteers and the health clubs in the H1N1 prevention programmes.
District Medical Officer N.M. Aisha Bhai, Deputy Director of Education Jessy Joseph, District Programme Manager of Arogya Keralam C.R. Mohandas, and District Mass Media Officer Dev attended the meeting.
