Communist Party of India (Marxist) Polit Bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan, who is contesting from Dharmadam, kicked off his campaign in the constituency on Wednesday after paying floral tributes at the party column at Parapram commemorating the Communist Party State unit’s foundation conference held in 1939.

Mr. Vijayan began the campaign on a day when the Left Democratic Front (LDF) officially announced its candidates for the election in the State. Dharmadam is the home turf of Mr. Vijayan as the constituency comprises his native place, Pinarayi. The constituency is a stronghold of the CPI(M). He also attended a few family meetings organised by the LDF in the constituency to mark the launch of electioneering in the constituency.

Mr. Vijayan told the gatherings at Parapram that he could not be expected to be in the constituency during the entire campaign period as he would be visiting various constituencies across the State on campaign tours.

The CPI(M) leader also told them that the people of the constituency knew him closely.

Mr. Vijayan’s arrival here on March 29 was greeted by party workers who turned up in large numbers at the Thalassery railway station. Mr. Vijayan would tour other constituencies in the State after the first phase of electioneering in Dharmadam.
