Kerala Congress (B) chairman R. Balakrishna Pillai met Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Monday and demanded the re-induction of his son K.B. Ganesh Kumar into the Cabinet in the slot allotted for his party.

Addressing mediapersons soon after meeting the Chief Minister at his residence in the morning, Mr. Pillai said there was no bar on the re-entry of Mr. Ganesh Kumar as there were no pending criminal cases against him.

However, Mr. Chandy refused to comment on the development and said that he would give an appropriate response on Wednesday. It is presumed that Mr. Chandy will give his reaction based on the outcome of the discussions he is expected to hold with Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala as part of an attempt to sort out their differences.

Mr. Pillai appears to have made a volte-face since he had earlier relinquished his party’s claims for a Cabinet post in view of moves to bring Mr. Chennithala into the Cabinet. Besides, his relations with his son continued to be strained.

Mr. Pillai said that he had informed the Chief Minister his party’s decision to make way for Mr. Ganesh Kumar’s re-entry into the Cabinet. The United Democratic Front (UDF) meeting had entrusted Mr. Chandy with the task of holding discussions on it with the leaders of constituent parties.
