Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will jointly inaugurate the second phase construction work of the Kollam bypass to the National Highway-47 on April 10.

The function in this connection will be held at the Kavanad bypass junction at 10.30 a.m.

Second phase

This was informed by Kollam MP N.K. Premachandran here on Monday while addressing a meeting called to constitute the reception committee for the event.

The second phase is an 18.30-km stretch from Kallumthazham to Kavanad.

The stretch will comprise three bridges, one of which at Kandachira will be 900 metres long.

Allocation

The allocation for the work was Rs.352 crore, Mr. Premachandran said.

The cost would be shared equally by the Union and State governments.

This was the first time that both the governments were sharing the cost for the construction of a bypass to a National Highway. Mr. Premachandran said the work was likely to be completed in 30 months.
