The Kerala High Court ordered on Monday production of directions, if any, issued by Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan to the special investigation team to exclude the Chief Minister’s office from investigations in the solar scam.
A Division Bench, comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, issued the directive to the petitioner, Sudhakaran of Paravur, who sought an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the cases registered in connection with the scam.
When the petition came up for hearing, the court said no-one was above the law. If the Minister had issued any directions, the petitioner could produce them. The petitioner could not level allegations on the basis of media reports.
The Bench adjourned by two weeks the hearing on the petition, and asked the State government to get instructions in the case.
Advocate General K.P. Dandapani earlier sought time to get instruction from the State government. The petitioner contended that the Chief Minister’s office was involved in the scam. Therefore, an investigation by the Central agency was essential.
He said highly influential politicians, including the Chief Minister and Union Ministers, and senior administrative and police officers were under a cloud in the scam. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy admitted to have had a discussion with Biju Radhakrishan, an accused in the scam.
Another petition
Meanwhile, Sajjad from Perumbavoor filed a petition seeking to implead himself in the case. He said the investigations were on the right track, and there was no necessity to entrust these to any Central agencies. The court could monitor the investigations.
