Peaceful in Pathanamthitta

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

The dawn-to-dusk hartal on Tuesday called by the Bharatiya Janata Party, demanding resignation of Finance Minister K.M. Mani in connection with the bar scam, was total and peaceful in Pathanamthitta district. Government offices and banks recorded lean attendance. Shops and other business establishments remained closed even in the rural areas. Vehicular traffic, barring a few two-wheelers, ambulances and police vehicles, was almost nil.

The municipal limits of Pathanamthitta and the grama panchayat limits of Elanthoor, Kozhencherry, Vadasserikkara, Mylapra, Omalloor, Thumpamon, and Vallikkode were exempted from the hartal owing to the Orthodox Christian Convention under way at Makkamkunnu.
