Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church Ignatius Aphrem II will return to Beirut on Friday after completing his three-day visit to India, during the course of which he batted for peace between feuding church factions.

The Patriarch met with church leaders including Cardinal George Alencherry of the Syro-Malabar Church, Joseph Mar Thoma Metropolitan, Bishop Sylvister Ponnumuthan, Abraham Mar Julios, and Euyakim Mar Coorilos on Thursday evening.

He also met Mayor Soumini Jain. According to sources, the Patriarch has sought another convenient time to meet the Prime Minister and President since he is tied up with other appointments during the time he was allotted to meet them.
