Participants invited for Vembanad Water Bird Count

This year’s Vembanad Water Bird Count will be held on January 16, 2011.

According to B Sreekumar, president, Kottayam Nature Society, Vembanad Water Bird Count 2011 is the eleventh consecutive water fowl count being organized jointly by Kerala forest and Wildlife Department and the Society as part of the Asian Water Bird Census. The survey will be held at ten selected spots spread over Kottayam and Alappuzha districts.

Participants would have to report before 6 p.m. on January 15 at the Regional Agriculture Research Station of Kerala Agriculture University at Kavanattinkara, Kumarakom. A training programme for newcomers on water bird count will be held on this Sunday.

According Dr Sreekumar, the entry will be free, but participants would have to register with Kottayam Nature Society at kottayamnaturesociety@gmail.com or ktm.bskumar@gmail.com. Or telephone: 9447289250 or 9447140359 before January 13, 2011.
