: Traffic was partially restored on Monday on the border route in Kumily, the main town connecting Kerala and Tamil Nadu. While the bus services from Tamil Nadu till the border resumed in the morning, bus services from Kerala will be resumed by 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday, Kumily police said.
A large number of vehicles carrying Sabarimala pilgrims also passed through the check post on Monday. Private vehicles and taxis operated till the border and people freely moved across the border check post, police said. There was complete peace in the border areas.
Authorities hope for resumption of normal traffic from Tuesday.
The Kumily police said that compared to the past two days, more vehicles reached the border and tourists also passed through the border check post.
However, only few vehicles crossed the border check post in Cumbom Mettu and in Bodimettu -- the other main check post in the High Ranges. Private taxis carrying workers also reached till the border, though there numbers has not increased on Monday, Cumbom Mettu police said.
Being it a route less preferred by Sabarimala pilgrims, their number crossing the Cumbom Mettu check post is normally less, they said.
The district administration, in a joint step with the Theni administration plans to restore to and fro traffic from Tuesday. Police have been deployed in sensitive areas to a senior police official said.
However, it may take some more time to restore the traffic of private vehicles carrying workers to the plantations in the district. The taxis abstained from work and when normalcy is returned, even these vehicles will also start services, Cumbom Mettu police said.
