March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - PATHANAMTHITTA:

In a twist to the airport controversy, the KGS Aranmula Airport Company has claimed that an expert panel chaired by former District Collector B. Mohanan had sought government nod to exempt the company from land laws, treating it a project of public interest.

The company presented documents to this effect at a Taluk Land Board meeting chaired by Deputy Collector M.J. Jaisingh here on Monday.

Official sources said the recommendation was made on March 10, 2014, by the committee .

Company’s request

Company representatives requested the Taluk Land Board to keep a case against Abraham Kalamannil, of the Mount Zion Trust, for keeping excess land in his possession in abeyance till the government took a decision on the panel’s recommendation.

Excess land

The Taluk Land Board had registered the case against Mr. Kalamannil for keeping land above the permitted limit of 15 acres in his possession and the KGS company that purchased the land from the former had impleaded itself in the case later.

Meanwhile, the district administration registered another case against the company recently for purchasing the ‘excess’ land from Mr. Kalammannil.

The district administration has decided to move the Kerala High Court, seeking six more months from April 1 for disposing of the case against Mr. Kalamannil, the sources said.
