Padayorukkam to be flagged off at Uppala on Nov 1

In its bid to expose the alleged anti-people policies of the BJP-led Central government and the Left Democratic Front in the State, the Opposition UDF will take out a Statewide vehicular campaign, Padayorukkam, from November 1.

Party leader A.K. Antony will flag off the rally to be led by Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala at 4 p.m. at Uppala.

The campaign is being organised to counter the alleged flawed policies of the the Centre that has led to all-round economic slowdown. It was also against the ruling dispensation’s moves to polarise society on communal lines, UDF district committee chairman and IUML leader Cherkalam Abdulla told a press conference here on Monday.

Mr. Abdulla said the march would also highlight the emerging political and economic scenario in the State.

The march will be accorded a public reception here at 5 p.m. on the inaugural day. On the second day, Mr. Chennithala would address public meetings at Chattamchal in the Uduma Assembly segment, Kanhangad and Thrikkaripur before entering Kannur district.

Senior party leaders, including Oommen Chandy, KPCC president M.M. Hassan, IUML supremo Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal and party leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, Janata Dal (U) State president M.P. Veerendrakumar, and other leaders of UDF, including N.K. Premachandran, Anoop Jacob and C.P. John, will be present at the inaugural function.

The vehicular campaign that will traverse all the Assembly segments in the State will culminate in Thiruvananthapuram on December 1. All India Congress Committee vice president Rahul Gandhi will address a public meeting on the Shanghumugham beach to mark the culmination of the month-long campaign.
