Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala pulled large crowds in the district on Saturday when his rally Padayorukkam was given receptions at Tanur, Tirur, Ponnani, Edappal, Kottakkal and Malappuram.

Addressing a surging crowd at Tanur, Mr. Chennithala said the country had not seen a worse Prime Minister than Narendra Modi. “We never had a Prime Minister who harboured so much contempt for democracy,” he said.

'Economic growth stalled'

Mr. Chennithala said the country’s economic growth had stalled because of the policies of the Modi government.

“Mr. Modi is trying to lead the country by fanning communal passions among people,” he said.

The Opposition leader said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should be given zero marks in governance. He warned the government against attempting to silence the United Democratic Front (UDF) leaders by using the solar case.

E.T. Mohammed Basheer, MP, inaugurated the meeting. District Congress Committee secretary O. Rajan presided.
