Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Friday that the government was ready for an open discussion on the solar scam. He accused the Opposition of trying to skirt the issue, displaying lack of confidence.

The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating a district-level campaign titled ‘Stability through the Congress’.

Mr. Chandy said the government had not lost any money in the solar scam case, in which there were 34 complainants. He said the government had initiated action against all those responsible. “The Opposition had failed to express its demand despite the discussions we held in the Assembly and outside,” Mr. Chandy said.

The Chief Minister said the person who was demanding his resignation in the solar case was an accused in a Rs.314-crore scam. “He is accompanied by V.S. (Achuthananadan), who spent Rs.3 crore government money to save the accused,” Mr. Chandy said.

The Chief Minister said the government was duty-bound to let the people know the truth about the solar scam.

District Congress Committee president E. Mohammed Kunhi presided. Congress leaders Rajmohan Unnithan, A.P. Anil Kumar, and Aryadan Mohammed spoke.
