The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has failed to open ‘account’ in the Kerala Assembly because the people of Kerala have taken a strong resolve against communalisation of politics, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader, Prakash Karat, has said.
Mr. Karat was addressing the election meeting of the Left Democratic Front here on Monday afternoon. The CPI(M) leader claimed that growth of BJP had been effectively checked only in Left strongholds like Tripura and Kerala. He said the BJP could not grow in West Bengal when the State was ruled by the Left parties.
Mr. Karat said the BJP could gain certain advances with the support of the Congress in West Bengal and all these showed that only the Left parties would be able to effectively check the BJP’s advances. He said the BJP would not open account in the Kerala Assembly as long as the LDF and other secular forces were there to check its advances, if any. He alleged that those who opposed the BJP’s communal agenda were often found to have been attacked and even killed in Kerala. The BJP targeted the student leaders who opposed them at the Hyderabad Central University, Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, and at the Pune Film Institute, he alleged.
Institutionalised graft
Mr. Karat alleged that the Congress-led United Democratic Front government had institutionalised corruption in Kerala.
Mr. Karat said only the CPI(M) had got an alternative development policy for Kerala. The LDF election manifesto promised a 35-point campaign for the State’s development and among this, the promise to generate 25-lakh employment opportunities was the most important.
Mr. Karat also addressed election meetings at Seethathode and Adoor too on Monday.
