The proceedings in relation to all the allegations except the one regarding the disproportionate assets case levelled against Additional Director General of Police Tomin J. Thachankery have been dealt with and closed, according to an affidavit filed by the State government in the Kerala High Court.

The government pointed out that the proceedings initiated in relation to the allegation that Mr. Thachankery and his family had gone to a foreign country during his earned leave period without government permission were closed in 2013 after administering him “severe warning” and asking him not to repeat it in future.

The government pointed out that a case relating to amassing of wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income was pending before the Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court. The court had not so far framed any charge against Mr. Thachankery.

As for the allegation of his alleged links with T. Nazeer, a Lashkar-e-Taiba member, and his associates, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) which conducted an inquiry had concluded that there was no credible material available to prove the allegations. As a result, the disciplinary proceedings initiated against him were finalised after considering the NIA inquiry report. The government added that, as of now, there were no departmental inquiry pending against Mr. Thachankery.

The affidavit was filed in response to a Division Bench’s directive given on a public interest writ petition challenging the en masse transfer of top police officials in the State. The government added that he had not been entrusted with any law and order duty. In fact, he has been vested with administrative functions only. He could in no way interfere with the functions of the State Police Chief.
