A 24-year old motorcyclist was killed after his vehicle was hit by a speeding lorry near here in the wee hours of Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Vishnu Prakash, son of Sreedharan, from Pathmabhavan in Pakkil.
The incident occurred by around 1.30 a.m. near the Neelimangalam bridge along the Main Central (M.C.) Road. According to the police, Vishnu was returning to his home after having dropped a friend at Ettumanoor. The motorcycle collided with a lorry that was coming from Vadavathoor and was heading towards Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu. Vishnu was thrown off from the vehicle by the impact of the accident. His vehicle was crushed under a front tyre of the lorry and his helmet was completely damaged.
It is also believed that Vishnu was left bleeding profusely on the road for nearly 15 minutes, after which he was rushed to the Kottayam Government Medical College by an autorichshaw driver. Vishnu succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at the hospital, police sources said.
Vishnu had been employed as a driver at a construction firm in Ernakulam. Meanwhile, the Gandhinagar police registered a case against the driver of the lorry for negligent driving.
