Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran has called for immediate corrective steps in jails to prevent breaches of prison rule of the type alleged to have been made by remand prisoners in TP Chandrasekharan murder case and alleged most jails are “party villages for CPI(M)”..
Talking to mediapersons at the Government Guest House in Kozhikode on Tuesday after a meeting with Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Ramachandran, Mr Mullappally Ramachandran said CPI(M) had been able to covert many jails within the State to party villages and remarked while jail reforms could not be achieved overnight the changes necessary to prevent violation of jail rules which had been reported from Kozhikode district jail should be made immediately
The Union Minister was commenting on reports which alleged the remand prisoners had posted their photographs taken with the help of smartphones inside the jail in Facebook. He remarked the photographs posted on Facebook gave the impression they were on a picnic though they were remand prisoners interned in jails for alleged murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader TP Chandrasekharan .
About the doubts being aired about the way Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan had been handling the TP Chandrasekharan murder case Mr. Mullappally Ramachandran said as the Home Minister of the State he had to be impartial and was not expected to favour either Congressmen or Marxists.
But he admitted there was no change in his ( Mullappally Ramachandran’s) view that the police investigation into the murder of the RMP leader should have covered “the larger conspiracy involving top leaders of CPI(M)” and not stopped with the role of district-level leaders of that party. He thought so since in his view such grave decisions would not have been taken by district –level leaders of CPI(M) without consent of CPI(M)’s top leadership .
However he would not approve of the way senior Congress leader and MP K Sudhakaran, had criticized the Home Minister. He believed such views should be aired only in proper party fora and not at Press conferences.
