Kerala government has decided to refer the ‘larger conspiracy’ leading to Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan's murder to Central Bureau for Investigation (CBI).
Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala told a news conference in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday that the government had taken the decision based on the report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which had inquired into the conspiracy angle based on a case registered by the Edacherry police station under Vadakara circle in Kozhikode district. The case was registered based on a petition submitted by Chandrasekharan's widow K.K. Rema.
The SIT, he said, had listed six grounds that necessitated a CBI probe which could cover the involvement of top leaders of the CPI(M), the inter-State dimensions of the crime and the possible links between the killer gang and gold smuggling accused Faiz, who is currently in custody and under investigation by the CBI.
The government had also taken the letter written to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy by Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan. Mr. Achuthanandan had, in his letter, sought a CBI investigation into the links between those who had been convicted in the case by the trial court and Faiz, who had visited one of the acquitted accused P. Mohanan, a district secretariat member of the CPI(M).
Asked whether the report submitted by the SIT contained specific mention about any specific CPI(M) leader, the Home Minister replied in the negative.
