Onam days beginning Thursday are likely to be days of rain and shine for Kerala, judging by the numerical weather prediction models of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The southwest monsoon was active in Kerala during the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday, with more than 75 per cent of the rain-recording stations of the IMD in the State reporting rainfall.
Though the rainfall was well spread out, its intensity did not exceed 4 cm on the gauge. The day's highest rainfall reports came from Nedumbassery, Kottayam, Vadakkancherry and Vaikom.
The Thiruvananthapuram Meteorological Centre, on Wednesday, said it expected no significant change in the weather till Sunday. The outlook favoured rain or thundershowers at many places during the four days from Thursday. But the centre did not expect severe weather conditions during this period, meaning that many places spread would quite likely receive sharp spells of rainfall punctuated by pleasant spells of sun and shine each day till Sunday. Rain is unlikely to play spoilsport with the Onam celebrations.
