Fifth consecutive win for mono-act artiste

Neenu Rajeev, final-year M.A. Malayalam student at UC College, Aluva, has created a record of sorts by winning the mono-act event of the Mahatma Gandhi University Youth Festival for the fifth time on the trot.

On Friday, the focus of Neenu’s performance was the recent ‘Kiss of Love’ demonstrations. She is also set to compete in other events, including Kathaprasangam and Elocution, which are also her strong points.

She has never been averse to highlighting contemporary social issues in her performances. At the Fancy Dress competition of the previous edition of the youth festival, she sought to raise the issue of water scarcity by enacting the role of an elderly lady in search of drinking water.

According to her father Rajeev, Neenu has been an active participant in arts competitions since school. She has received the best performer award in various cultural festivals, including the varsity-level event in 2012. “Inspired by her achievements, her younger brother has also shown interest in the field. Neenu aspires to appear for the Civil Services examination,” he says.
