Oman abduction victim laid to rest

The body of John Philip who was abducted and found murdered in Oman was laid to rest at St. Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Church cemetery at Manarcaud on Tuesday.

Hundreds of people thronged his house and the church to pay their respects to the departed soul.

John’s body, which was taken by an Air India flight from Muscat on Monday night to New Delhi, arrived at Kochi by 9 a.m. and after completing formalities taken to Manarcaud.

Catholicos, CM visit family

Catholicos Baselius Thomas I, head of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, CPI(M) district secretary V.N. Vasavan, and leaders from all walks of life visited the family to convey their condolence.

The body was taken to the cemetery by 2.30 p.m. John had been working in Oman for the past 13 years with a petrol distribution company. He was abducted from his workplace at Sunaina in Oman in the night of June 10.

His body was found five days later a few kilometres away from the workplace. The Royal Oman Police had arrested six Omani nationals in connection with the murder.
