Rosa alias Kunjannam, the oldest woman in the country according to Limca Book of Records, died at a private hospital here on Tuesday. She was 112.

Kunjannam was admitted to a hospital following age-related illness on Monday. She became famous after she entered the Limca Book of Records recently. She was reportedly the second oldest woman in the world after a Japanese woman who is 114 years old. Kunjannam was born on May 12, 1903, as 11th daughter of Vazhappilly Antony-Achunny couple. She lost her parents when she was a child. She was staying with her brother Jose at Kunnamkulam. She used to work as a house maid till 10 years ago. Neighbours recalled that Kunjannam used to walk to the nearby church even after she crossed 110 years. She was not suffering from any lifestyle diseases such as diabetes or high blood pressure. She loved chocolates. When people of her age chew betel leaves and areca nut, she liked to eat sweets. It was by chance that people came to know that Kunjannam had crossed 100. The St. Thomas U.P. School, Parannur, where she studied, short-listed the students in the earlier batches of the school, when it planned to celebrated its centenary.
