The city Corporation on Saturday collected 40 tonnes of old footwear and bags in a collection drive conducted at various locations in the city.
The drive was conducted at Poojappura ground, Jagathy ground, Putharikkandam ground, Vanchiyoor High Court Junction, Pippinmoodu junction, Kazhakuttam award committee office, near Beach HI office, and at the Vattiyurkavu ward committee office from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
The Corporation had organised a similar collection programme six months ago too. Mayor V.K. Prashanth said the Corporation was thinking of having a permanent counter system for the collection of electronic waste, old glass bottles, old bags, and footwear. The locations of these counters will have to be selected and rates fixed as per schedule.
