Nursing students in the district called off their stir against the district administration’s controversial order directing nursing college Principals to deploy students to hospitals affected by the ongoing strike by nurses.
The decision was taken by the Student Nurses’ Association (NSA) leadership following their talks with District Collector Mir Mohammed Ali here on Wednesday. The students had been boycotting classes in protest against the Collector’s magisterial order under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code.
The order, however, would not be completely withdrawn in view of the emergency situation in the health-care sector owing to the strike by nurses in private hospitals here.
“The order issued in anticipation of emergency situation is still in place, but since there is no emergency, the district administration is not taking any punitive action against the students,” Mr. Ali told The Hindu.
Work in parent hospitals
He said he told the students’ representatives that all the students in the nursing colleges here would be working in the parent hospitals of those colleges. The strength of deployment would be decided by the hospitals concerned, he said adding that the district administration would take necessary action in case there was any emergency.
