The nurses at Lakeshore Hospital struck work on Monday following the non-implementation of the agreement regarding salaries and harassment of the nurses who had struck work earlier for more than two weeks last month.
According to the representative of the unit of United Nurses' Association at Lakeshore, the management had taken a harsh view towards the nurses for striking work. Two nurses on probation were dismissed and more nurses would face the same situation, the management had told the nurses' representative.
The management is planning to appoint 104 nurses they had recruited during the strike period to replace the earlier staff, said the nurses' representative.
There is no training period in Lakeshore, said one of the nurses. The probation period also extends from a year to 2-3 years depending on the whims of the management, said the nurse.
The nurses association had given a notice to the management on February 26 regarding yet another strike if the management did not implement the agreement drawn up at the intervention of the Labour Minister Shibu Baby John. However all the three talks had failed to be conclusive.
