No-trust motion against local body chief fails

April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - KASARAGOD:

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] had to face an embarrassing situation after the vote of a party ward member was declared invalid during a no-confidence motion moved against the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML)-ruled Ajanur grama panchayat governing body on Saturday. Trying to capitalise on the rumblings cropped up recently between the IUML and the Congress over the decision to carve out Manikkoth panchayat by bifurcating the Ajanur panchayat, the LDF decided to move a no-confidence motion against Ajanur grama panchayat president P.P. Naseema. Even as the motion was defeated, the vote marked by CPI(M) member T.V. Padmini, a panchayat standing committee chairperson, was declared invalid giving embarrassing moments for the party.
