K.K. Rema, wife of the slain Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP) leader T.P. Chandrasekharan, has said that she is “not fully satisfied” with the verdict of the Special Additional Sessions Court (Marad cases) at Eranhipalam here setting free Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leaders allegedly involved in the killing of her husband.
However, she maintained that she was “not disappointed.”
An appeal would be filed against the acquittal of CPI (M) leader P. Mohanan in the case, Ms. Rema, who was present in the court to hear the judgment, said.
She demanded that the State government order a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the conspiracy angle.
The conviction of two CPI (M) leaders from Kannur and Kozhikode districts had established the involvement of that party in the killing. K.C. Ramachandran was from Kozhikode, while P.K. Kunhanandan was from Kannur. This clearly proved that the conspiracy had been hatched with the knowledge of the party leadership, she said.
Ms. Rema said none of the seven members of the hired gang had any hostility with Chandrasekharan.
They neither had any links with him. So, it was clear that they had had been hired by the CPI (M) to kill Chandrasekharan.
RMP leader N. Venu said the party was not completely satisfied with the verdict. The trial court had exonerated some of those involved in the conspiracy. However, the party had trust in the judiciary. The verdict had also strengthened the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the wider conspiracy, Mr. Venu said.
