The State committee of Non-Protected Teachers Association has deplored a recent statement made by Education Minister M.A. Baby that “teachers do not lose their jobs with the fall in number of students.”

The State committee headed by its president Vinod Chirayath said the statement was a humiliation for teachers who lost their jobs following the shortage of students.

“Since 1997, no fewer than 1,000 teachers have lost their job. During this academic year alone, the education department has witnessed a fall of around 81,000 students,” P.M. Ashraf, general secretary of the association said, in a press release here on Monday.

He demanded that the Education Department take steps for protecting the non-protected teachers in the State.
