Nomination questioned

March 28, 2011 08:35 pm | Updated 08:35 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The candidature of P.T.A. Rahim, the LDF-backed National Secular Conference nominee for the Kunnamangalam constituency in Kozhikode, has been questioned by the UDF as he was still holding the office of the State Haj Committee chairman.

In a complaint to the returning officer, State president of the Muslim Students Federation P.K. Firoz said the nomination of Mr. Rahim should be rejected as he was still holding the office.

However, Mr. Rahim clarified that his chairmanship of the Haj committee was not an office of profit and hence there was nothing improper about it.

A final decision on this by the authorities was awaited on Tuesday.
