Nod for Thrissur Pooram fireworks

Fireworks, as approved by PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation) for the last Thrissur Pooram, can be displayed for this edition of the festival also, the Chief Controller of Explosives has informed the District Collector.

Permission has been given for use of palm-leaf crackers, gundu , amittu , and kuzhiminnal in specified size.

The Revenue Divisional Officer has banned helicams and helicopters above the pooram maidan on festival days. Use of whistles, laser lights, balloons, and nasic dholes have also been banned. Elephants with history of violence should not be brought to the city on April 24, 25, and 26.

Viewers will be restricted up to 100 m from the display of fireworks. Barricades will be erected to keep people at a safe distance from the parading elephants.

The Food Safety Department will ensure cleanliness of food served by eateries.

‘No’ to church

Meanwhile, the District Collector denied permission for fireworks for festival of St. Joseph Church, Pavaratty. The High Court has ordered to give permission only if the guidelines are satisfied by the festival organisers for display of fireworks. But the church officials failed to satisfy the conditions, including safe distance of fireworks display from people, according to the Collector.
