Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that he will not evade scrutiny in the solar scam by making anyone a scapegoat.

Mr. Chandy said the guilty would be punished no matter how influential they were. He was talking to reporters at Aluva Palace here. Mr. Chandy said he had sought a report from ADGP T.P. Sen Kumar when allegations were raised against his personal staff. An inquiry was ordered following reports that two in his personal staff was involved in the solar scam. The law would take its course against the guilty, he said.

The Chief Minister urged the Opposition to assess the progress of the inquiry, instead of making wild allegations against it. Mr. Chandy said he would not, however, question anyone’s right to repeatedly seek his resignation.

The State had witnessed several allegations of sexual demeanour, similar to the one being faced by Jose Thettayil, MLA. The Left’s position on the Thettayil issue was different from their stated positions in similar issues in the past. CPI (M) should explain to the people why it was no longer adopting a moral high-ground, Mr. Chandy said.

The case against Mr. Thettayil was being investigated by a special team. Mr. Chandy said that he has no intention of interfering in that inquiry.
