The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee has put the brakes on public debates on the District Congress Committees’ election analysis reports that appear to have triggered off a new round of acrimony.
KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran warned Alappuzha DCC president A.A. Shukoor for airing his views publically on the report prepared by the DCC.
‘Indifferent attitude’
The DCC report had named a few senior leaders for their rather indifferent attitude during campaigning. The details of the report were leaked out, creating a furore.
The DCC reports of Kannur and Wayanad districts were also leaked out putting the district leaderships under pressure.
The KPCC under Mr. Sudheeran had broken away from the earlier practice of appointing panels to evaluate the post-election scene.
He instead asked the DCCs to hold their own review and submit reports ahead of the KPCC executive committee meeting on April 22.
The contents of these reports had now turned out to be quite embarrassing.
Mr. Sudheeran said he had issued a stern warning to Mr. Shukoor since he was the first to trigger off a public debate.
He should have taken care to keep away controversies, which had led to a chain of statements and counter statements.
“I have conveyed the PCC’s displeasure to Mr. Shukoor in view of the fact that he was the first prominent leader to stoke a public debate,” he said.
Appeal to leaders
Mr. Sudheeran urged party leaders to keep off public debates since they would get sufficient opportunities to air their views at the KPCC executive meeting.
The UDF high-power committee meeting is also scheduled to be held on April 23 to assess the coalition’s performance in the Lok Sabha elections.
The party leadership will not hesitate to take strong action against leaders who continue to indulge in controversies over the election reports, the KPCC president said.
