No formal Ghar Vapsi in Kerala, says VHP

With reports of conversions of Christians to Hinduism trickling in from Kerala, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad leadership said it had organised no formal Ghar Vapsi ceremonies, but “re-conversions” were taking place at regional levels “regularly”.

M.C. Valsalan, organising secretary of the VHP State unit, said such incidents were regularly taking place in many parts of the State. They suddenly attained significance in the wake of discussions on conversions in Parliament, he said.

Dharm Prasar, a little-known organisation that claims to be affiliated to the VHP, said more such “re-conversions” would take place in the coming days in other parts of Kerala. A family of 40 families would return to Hinduism in Kottayam shortly, its functionaries said, but refused to be quoted. The organisation is targeting 1,500 Christians and Muslims, one functionary said. But no large-scale event is planned. Instead, the functionary said, there would be localised conversion programmes at 30 centres.

The organisation claims to have made contact with 300 families who are ready to “reconvert” to Hinduism.
