DYFI State secretary T.V. Rajesh, MLA, on Wednesday said media reports that there was a decrease of two lakh in the membership of the DYFI were exaggerated. He said there was a decrease of only 76,668 members.
Mr. Rajesh told reporters on the sidelines of the DYFI State conference here that the decrease was in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Kasaragod districts.
He pointed out that 10 per cent of the units of the organisation were not functioning at all. Mr. Rajesh said the delegates session at the State conference threw up various issues.
Mr. Rajesh said it was decided that every unit of the DYFI should try to set up an organic vegetable garden. “The Madhav Gadgil committee report should be implemented rectifying its defects. The government should form a committee to look into the complaints of the public regarding the panel’s recommendations,” he said.
He said the delegates felt that the organisation should interfere more actively in certain sectors where people, the majority of them youth, were getting poor remuneration. The organisation should focus more on issues of women. Also, stress should be on the independent functioning of the organisation.
Mr.Rajesh said the organisation would continue its campaign against the Aranmula airport project.
